Kaua‘i will celebrate National Police Week, May 11 to 17, with a full slate of activities beginning Monday.
“Police Week is a time to reflect on the sacrifices our law enforcement officers have made for our communities, those who have died in the line of duty and those who continue to protect our community on a daily basis,” Kaua‘i Police Chief Darryl Perry said.
An open house is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The public will have an opportunity to tour police headquarters and the Incident Command Vehicle, meet police officers and learn first-hand about the department’s day-to-day operations.
Other activities include:
• Proclamation Ceremony, 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Lihu‘e Civic Center.
• Memorial Services, 6 p.m. Monday at the Holy Family Church on O‘ahu.
• Employee Appreciation Day 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
National Police Week was created in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week.
