Kapa‘a High School soccer player and president of the Interact Club, Lauren Esaki, will be the recipient of the Augie Tulba Speak the Dream scholarship at Augie T.’s Birthday Bash on May 17 at Kilohana in Puhi.
Esaki maintains a 4.0 grade point average, is on the Principal’s List and is a member of the National Honor Society.
“The key point however that attracted the committee to choose Esaki is the part of her essay that stated her overall goal,” Tulba said in a release.
Her essay reads that upon receiving a degree in Environmental Science, she plans on returning to Hawai‘i with a master’s degree in education to incorporate environmental science into the state’s curriculum.
“By educating Hawai‘i’s youth about the environment and its fragility, I hope to change their way of life and start a new generation that is conservation aware and that will take appropriate actions to save our islands and our future,” Esaki wrote.
Tulba and his wife Kim came up with the Speak the Dream scholarship foundation a few years ago with the intention of presenting scholarships to Hawai‘i’s seniors in need of support and financial assistance in furthering their education.
