go! Airlines and Mokulele Airlines teamed up to enable 23 Kaua‘i High School students to attend the NACAC College Fair on O‘ahu, April 23 to April 24.
According to Divina Plowman, one of the Advancement Via Individual Determination advisors, go! donated the airfare for the students while Mokulele Airlines donated the overnight accomodations. The donation was extended to include the students’ chaperones as well.
Plowman said, “The participating students are part of a new college preparatory elective program at Kaua‘i High School called AVID aimed at helping more students engage in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum.”
One of the goals of the program is to introduce students to college campuses and generate excitement for furthering their education.
Students Kawehi Koslowski and Joyce Peralta both received information at the college fair about Tokyo Christian Academy University, which offers great scholarships to Hawai‘i students, Plowman said.
In addition to participating at the college fair, the AVID class toured the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, Hawai‘i Pacific University, and Chaminade campuses.
Earlier in the school year, go! and Mokulele Airlines sent a team of pilots and maintenance technicians to Kauai High School as part of a career explorations speaking panel.
“Had it not been for these two local businesses, this class would have had to forego any off-island excursions due to the rising ticket prices,” Plowman said. “Kaua‘i High School would like to thank Joe Bock of go! Airlines and Bill Boyer of Mokulele Airlines for taking an interest in Kaua‘i’s students and giving them an opportunity to explore their educational options.”
