USGA announces Women’s Publinx
The United States Golf Association is now accepting entries for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship, scheduled for June 16-21 at Erin Hills Golf Course, Delafield, Wisc. The cost to enter is $50 and the deadline for receiving entries is by 5 p.m. EST, this Wednesday.
First played in 1977 and including such notable winners as Heather Farr, Danielle Ammaccapane, Amy Fruhwirth and Michelle Wie. The championship is only open to (1) female amateur golfers (2) have an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 18.4 under the USGA Handicap System and (3) who since January 1 of the current year have been bona fide public course players.
Players must apply on-line using the USGA Web site at www.usga.org. Be sure to select one of approximately 40 qualifying sites.
Eighteen-hole qualifiers will be held nationwide from May 21 to 30, with spots awarded at each site to fill the championship field of 144 players. The local qualifier will be held on May 21 at the Wailua Golf Course.
The championship format will be two rounds of stroke play, with the low 64 scorers advancing to single-elimination match play.
The Women’s Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
