Dan O’Connell is ready for Mother’s Day, and sometimes a visit to his place works — he just got a shipment of Oregon beer that wasn’t chilled.
He’ll be hosting a wine tasting Saturday with samples from Spain, Argentina and other places with no charge for the tasting.
Wendy Tannery (had a nice talk about YMCA with Tom, Saturday) was being a mom on Saturday, and a coach on Sunday when she was working with Waimea Canyon Middle School (did you see how nice their shirts were?) at the county’s age group track meet.
Melanie Okamoto said the county will be hosting the Hershey’s meet this Saturday from 2:30 p.m. Kathleen and Kelsey Cadiente, both participants in former Hershey’s meets in Pennsylvania were also on hand for both days, and hats off to coach Dave Walker for keeping things on track.
Kekaha pitcher Alika Emayo went in to close the PONY baseball game (Kaimana Jose had a tremendous lunging save for Kekaha in the fourth), and went right over to the track to run.
Coach Hank Ibia was taking in the PONY game, Sunday, but was at the age group meet, Saturday, with his Kaua‘i High School baseball boys. If you want some of those cookies, check out Stan’s Service Station in Puhi where they have the whole assortment.
Aaron Furugen knew when to get to the stadium, too, because that shave ice was perfect for beating the heat.
OK, this is the week for the KIF track, and Jon Kobayashi said the Thursday night preliminaries are free, but the Friday night KIF championship does have an admission charge.
