Wailana Borrero struck out five batters, walked five and finished 3-for-4 with a single, two doubles and four RBIs in Kaua‘i High School’s 14-4 victory over Waimea High School yesterday at Isenberg Field.
Waimea got an early jump on the scoreboard with Erin Connelly hitting a three-run triple in the first inning. From third, Connelly made a run for home-plate on the next play on wild pitch, but was called out to end Waimea’s run.
Kaua‘i answered by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first from Borrero’s first RBI of the day when she drove Jaezelle Balilea.
Following Borrero, Jessica Iwata hit an RBI triple. She finished 1-for-4. Amanda Mayer went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Naja Pungan went 1-for-2 with an RBI triple and a run scored.
For Waimea, Shana Tafiti was relieved by Shelly Koerte in the fifth inning, when Tafiti left the field due to an injury.
Aside from Connelly’s triple, Kelsie Igne drove in Waimea’s other run.
