Kiahuna Open Tennis tournament Apr. 26
Entry forms for the Second Kiahuna Open Tennis tournament are now available at the Kiahuna Swim and Tennis Club pro shop, or by e-mailing kiahu-naswimandtennis@hawaiiantel.biz
Scheduled for Apr. 26, the Open tournament comes on the heels of the highly successful tournament hosted by the Kiahuna organization in January.
At that tournament, Tom Edlefsen of the Kiahuna Swim and Tennis Club said there were more than a hundred players playing doubles in three divisions.
That same format will apply for the upcoming tournament, and Edlefsen said, based on the response from the January tournament, he expects more players and will welcome them.
The Open Doubles was created for Kaua‘i tennis players who did not want to incur the additional expenses of traveling to the many USTA off-island tournaments.
That resulted in the Open Tennis Doubles for Men’s and Women’s in the three divisions.
Additionally, the tournament provided an opportunity for the Gustavus Tennis, a collegiate program, to meet and play with local-ranked players, known at the Kiahuna circuit as the Macho All-Stars.
Gustavus was heading back from an athletic series of workshops in Australia and made the stop in Po‘ipu before meeting up with Brigham Young University in La’ie, O‘ahu.
Edlefsen said this year, the Macho All-Stars will be playing the Gustavus mens team.
