Bail in excess of $1 million was set for a 36-year-old man who allegedly led police on a chase after burglarizing Kauai Coffee Co. headquarters in Kalaheo last week.

According to police, officers responded to a burglary call at Kaua‘i Coffee Co.’s headquarters in Kalaheo at around 8:26 p.m. Wednesday night.
An officer tried to arrest the suspect, later identified as Andrade, but he resisted, according to county officials. Andrade then reportedly stole a Kaua‘i Coffee pick-up truck and almost ran over two officers while fleeing the scene.
Andrade continued to drive recklessly, heading westbound on Kaumuali‘i Highway until he crashed into a guardrail in the vicinity of ‘Ele‘ele Shopping Center.
When officers attempted to subdue the man, he again resisted arrest and as a result assaulted and injured two police officers.
After the arrest, the following charges were added based on discovery of evidence: third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug.
Andrade was also arrested for previous felony family abuse and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, according to county officials.
