The driver of a car that left the road and struck a tree in Anahola had to be extricated by emergency personnel early Sunday.
The 18-year-old driver, Bridget Sorensen of Kapa‘a, was at Wilcox Memorial Hospital last night, in serious condition, said county spokesperson Mary Daubert.
According to a preliminary report, Sorensen was driving a Plymouth sedan heading west on South ‘Aliomanu Road around 2 a.m. Sunday. Sorensen crossed the centerline, ran off the roadway, and crashed into a tree.
Sorenson and her passenger were found unconscious and had to be extricated by the Kaua‘i Fire Department, according to a county press release.
Tiphany Boissiere, 32, of Puhi was the passenger.
South ‘Aliomanu Road was closed for about three hours.
Police believe that alcohol was a factor in the collision, according to the release.
