KILAUEA — Every class at Kilauea School will have at least one project, said Jami Sitzler, a first-grade teacher at Kilauea School.
Her class was already engaged in its stained glass project which was neatly tucked away so students could enjoy the presentations of the school’s Career Day presenters last week.
Sitzler said funding for arts and music programs in schools have been cut back, and in order to keep the programs going, the school is organizing a fundraising event on April 5 at the Princeville Hotel.
In addition to a silent auction where a lot of the class projects will be available, the event will feature the musical talents of Titus and the Kaua‘i Boys and The Mango Brothers, Sitzler said.
Tickets for this event are now on sale at the Kilauea School office, and for those who purchase tickets before March 14, admission price is $35 per person. After that date, tickets will be sold at $40 per person.
The evening features a dinner buffet, a live and silent auctions, and entertainment.
One of the featured items is being worked on by the Kilauea School office staff, Sitzler said.
That will be a lauhala and koa bedroom set featuring two nightstands and a headboard for a queen-sized bed, said Leila Kaneholani, one of the school’s office staff members.
“People from the community have donated the lumber and work to create the items and the people from the school are working to weave the lauhala insets,” Kaneholani said. “It’s a unique, one-of-a-kind item, and it’s all handmade to help the students.”
