With the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative’s board of directors election rapidly approaching, The Garden Island will host a candidates’ forum Thursday at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the forum will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The candidates are: Thomas Ellis, Dennis Esaki, Ken Stokes, Ben Sullivan, Teofilo Phil Tacbian and Peter Yukimura.
Esaki, Tacbian and Yukimura were nominated by KIUC Nominating Committee in early January and are current board members.
Ellis, Stokes and Sullivan qualified for the election by petition.
Director terms last three years and are staggered so that three seats come up for election each year.
A director is one of nine elected representatives of the members of KIUC who collectively constitute the board of directors.
The format for Thursday’s forum will be question and answer with an opportunity for the community to participate as well.
TGI is soliciting questions from the public through Wednesday for consideration to be used Thursday evening.
If you would like to suggest a question, e-mail it to Editor Adam Harju at aharju@kauaipubco.com
You can drop questions off at the offices of TGI as well at 3-3137 Kuhio Highway in Lihu‘e. Mark questions “KIUC forum, attention editor.”
Look to The Garden Island beginning March 1 for profiles of the candidates. One will run each day for six days.
Come out Thursday evening and learn how the potential directors would approach issues of vast importance to Kaua‘i.
