‘ELE‘ELE — A 67-year-old man died in a head-on collision late Saturday night on Kaumuali‘i Highway in ‘Ele‘ele.
The collision occurred at 11:25 p.m. near the ‘Ele‘ele Shopping Center, states a county press release.
The man who died at the scene has been identified as Roman Cruz of Kekaha.
According to police officials, the 18-year-old driver of a Chevy Nova, Micah Moke, was eastbound on the highway between mile marker 15 and 16 when he crossed the centerline and hit the westbound Acura driven by Cruz.
Moke and his 17-year-old passenger were taken to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital.
Moke is reportedly in stable condition, while his passenger is in fair condition, according to the release.
Police state that speed and alcohol may be contributing factors in the crash.
Cruz is Kaua‘i’s fourth traffic fatality this year.
