The Kaua‘i High School’s girls soccer team defeated Campbell High School 6-0 yesterday to finish third in the JN Automotive Division II State Soccer Championships at the Waipi‘o Peninsula Park.
The Red Raiders (3-1 championships, 8-4-1 overall) were led by Jaezelle Balilea who put Kaua‘i on the boards around the 23rd minute.
Skye Shimabukuro and Teal Basquez would also score to finish out the first half.
Returning from the break, Balileo scored again to put the Raiders up 4-0. Brandi Gomes scored at the 61st minute and Jolene Lee-Hormstein scored at the 70th minute to cap off the game for the bronze finish.
Kaua‘i earned its spot in the championship tournament by winning a playoff against Seabury Hall of Maui.
It advanced through the tournament by defeating Hawai‘i Prep in the first round, then knocking off No. 4 St. Anthony in the quarterfinals.
Kaua‘i was dropped to the third-place match when top-ranked Roosevelt High School narrowly beat the Raiders in a shootout.
The boys state soccer tournament starts this week.
