Kaua‘i faces Seabury for right to advance

The Kapa‘a High School girls soccer team received a No. 3 seed for the upcoming state soccer championships in Division II.

With the seed, Kapa‘a draws a bye on Wednesday when the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association opens its Division II state championships.

Top seed in Division II is the Roosevelt Rough Riders with Kamehameha-Big Island drawing the No. 2 seed. St. Anthony follows Kapa‘a as the division’s No. 4 seed.

Kapa‘a will see action on Thursday when the Warrior wahine go up against the winner of the Sacred Hearts and Cambell contest which will be played Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Kaua‘i High School, the second place team in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation, will face off against Seabury on Tuesday in a special playoff contest to determine who will advance in the Division II state championships. The winner of that playoff will face Hawai‘i Prep on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Other opening day games for Division II include Christian Liberty taking on the Kaimuki Bulldogs, and Waialua meeting Honoka‘a.

Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama is the top seed in the Division 1 bracket. Pearl City is the second seed followed by Kamehameha Schools-Maui and Konawaena at No. 3 and 4, respectively.

The JN Automotive Group Soccer 2008 State Championships tournament runs Jan. 30 through Feb. 2 at the Waipio Peninsular Soccer Park and Stadium on O‘ahu.
