Kaua‘i cheerleaders, accompanied by family members, are headed out for Florida today to perform in front of a national audience.
Kekaha Pop Warner Association cheerleaders Aleina Emayo, Brianna Resquer-Yorkman, Jackie Taylor, Jessica Langaman and Hanapepe cheerleader Nanea Wilson were selected as outstanding performers during a Jamz Cheer Camp over the summer and were given the opportunity to perform in the halftime show for the Capital One Bowl.
Emayo left with her family on Tuesday. Taylor, Langaman, Resquer-Yorkman and Wilson leave today and will arrive in Florida tomorrow.
While there, they will join hundreds of other cheerleaders and performers for the halftime show.
They were sent DVDs of the routine and were told to practice the routine and be ready to join the group the before the show.
The group was able to get together a few hours after school to practice the routine at the Waimea Neighborhood Center.
“They’re very excited and are ready to go,” said Sherry Emayo, Aleina Emayo’s mother.
Their trip includes visits to the Universal Orlando Theme Parks and Walt Disney World. The Capital One Bowl pits Michigan (8-4) and Florida (9-3) in a bowl game that is scheduled to be broadcast at 8 a.m. HST on Jan. 1 on ABC.
