Last week in college football, No. 5 West Virginia lost to South Florida. No. 4 Florida lost to Auburn. No. 7 Texas went down to Kansas State and top-ranked USC played a close one against Washington.
No. 3 Oklahoma lost, but we like that one because Kaua‘i’s Jordon Dizon had a hand in Colorado’s win. (See related story, top right.)
In the NFL, San Diego lost to Kansas, Pittsburgh lost to Arizona and the New York Giants dropped the Philadelphia Eagles. No doubt that messed up a few Football Frenzy ballots.
But, Pedro Tagatac of Lihu‘e did just fine. He was the Football Frenzy weekly winner with 11 out of 13 right. Tagatac won $50 cash as his prize.
As for the panel, Ron Wiley of KQNG radio and I tied at 10-3. But the week goes to Wiley on the tie break. The total score for the New England/Cincinnati game was 47 and he guessed 48.
This means that out of the media panelists, we have all won at least one week. David Bice won the first, Dickie Chang won the second. I won week three and Wiley wins week four. That should make this week exciting.
Nelson Lopes of Lihu‘e joins us this week as our guest panelist. As the winner, he received a $25 gift card for the Polynesia Cafe in Kapa‘a and still has a chance to beat the panel.
As for this week’s forecast, Kaua‘i High School hosts Waimea High School at Vidinha Stadium. At last meeting, the Menehune defeated the defending KIF champs, 16-14. This should be a close one.
The University of Hawai‘i Warriors should easily beat Utah State. The Warriors have outscored the Aggies 113-33 in the last two times they’ve met, so this one should be a no-brainer. But you never know. West Virginia, Florida and Texas looked like no-brainers, too.
