Holly Kay Shimazu of Lihu‘e has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Holly was honored at an Induction Convocation Monday on the campus of the University of Northern Colorado.
“NSCS is more than just a symbol of academic achievement,” NSCS executive director Stephen E. Loflin states in a press release. “Membership gives students access to benefits including career and networking resources, scholarships, travel, and service projects both on campus and in the community.”
NSCS is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is the nation’s only interdisciplinary honors organization for first- and second-year college students. Membership is by invitation only, based on grade point average and class standing. NSCS has more than 550,000 lifetime members.
Shimazu was recently named to the Dean’s List of Academic Distinction at the University of Northern Colorado for the 2006-2007 school year. She has completed a minimum of 24 semester hours and has achieved a 3.75 or above grade point average for any two terms of the year and was awarded a certificate acknowledging her outstanding scholarship.
Shimazu will be returning to the University of Northern Colorado as a second semester Junior majoring in communications. She plans to continue her part-time employment at the Barnes and Nobles Bookstore and looks forward to dancing hula with the Hawaii Club on campus.
