Kaua‘i Economic Opportunity Inc. will offer a three-day mediation program beginning Friday.
The classes offer basic training on Sept. 21, 22 and 23 for individuals interested in learning about mediation.
Mediation is the informal process of helping parties in dispute to resolve their differences as an alternative to court proceedings. Mediators are impartial community volunteers who are trained to be neutral facilitators of a wide range of disputes, including neighbor/neighbor, landlord/tenant, consumer/merchant, workplace, business, condo and real estate, divorce and family issues and court criminal and or misdemeanor referred cases.
The classes run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
Basic training costs $400. For participants who sign into the Kaua‘i Economic Opportunity Mediation Program, which requires apprenticeship completion for certification, the cost is $100.
Apprenticeship requires attendance at a minimum of 10 cases accompanied by certified mediators, five cases for observation only, and five cases for mediation.
Registration is required. For more information, call Kaua‘i Economic Opportunity at 245-4077.
