Getting to see Beth Cuizon at the head of the Waimea High School band was a pleasant way to start the football season.
The Menehune rocked and rolled as they beat out Kona, Saturday night. Anahola Joel Pahukula got wet Friday night when the rains came in the second half, but on Saturday, he was safe in the shelter of the Hanapepe press box when rain pelted the JV game.
Major Victor Aguilar is looking forward to tomorrow when Waimea hosts Douglas Nobriga and the Kaua‘i air riflery team at the Hanapepe Stadium … sounds like a good reason to visit the Salt Pond Country Store.
Major was at the game Saturday to make sure the Jr. ROTC color guard went through its paces alright, and coach Paul Barba was one of the security guys in orange. The Kona coach didn’t believe security was part of athletics.
But for today, it’s off to Lydgate Park where Josie Pablo will get the help of the visiting Okinawa nursing students who will also be invited to the Mahelona bon dance, Friday. That sounds like a good stopping point before checking out Greg Gonsalves and the Kapa‘a game against Coronado.
Cody Bonilla, one of the young paramedics for American Medical Response, has been going non-stop, working football games and the farm fair, and back to the football games. Finally, it was nice to see Rosie Bukoski and Linda Antipala at the All Girl Rodeo, Sunday … the burgers are ono, and hard ice for Po‘ipu? That’s a no- brainer.
