The Garden Nile Belly Dance Troupe of Kaua‘i and MirandaBellyDancer.com are offering a two-day belly dance workshop this weekend, Aug. 11 and Aug. 12, together with a belly dance competition and show on the evening of Aug. 11. This two day workshop, competition and show will be held at the Waikiki Hyatt on the island of O‘ahu.
The esteemed Mahmoud Reda of Cairo, Egypt, is the featured choreographer and teacher for this two-day workshop. “His extensive research throughout Egypt has been influential in the evolution of the art of Oriental Dance (Raks Sharki) as we know it today,” states a recent press release. Mahmoud Reda has toured over 60 countries performing with his famous Reda Troupe. He has performed at many prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York and is a well known actor and choreographer for Egyptian films.
The Hawai‘i NATCMED Belly Dance Competition and Awards Show is open to the public and will be held at the Waikiki Hyatt on Saturday at 7 p.m. Mahmoud Reda will be the lead judge for this competition. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
