A brush fire broke out on the westside of Lihu‘e around 6 p.m. yesterday and quickly grew to several acres closing Wilcox and Apapane roads. Two Inter-Island helicopters were dispatched to help combat the fire that also closed a portion of Niumalu Road.
County spokesperson Mary Daubert said that no buildings were threatened by the blaze that was burning behind Garden Isle Disposal, toward the golf course on Grove Farm property.
Though no buildings were threatened, Daubert said the fire was still growing around 7:30 p.m. “It’s not under control yet,” she said.
Firefighters were responding to the blaze from Lihu‘e, Hanalei, Koloa and Kalaheo, Daubert said.
