A 15-year-old female driving a sedan crashed into a sport utility vehicle on the Kapa‘a Bypass Road Monday night, according to police.
No serious injuries were reported in the accident.
The juvenile driver was heading north when she lost control of the vehicle, crossed the centerline and struck a southbound Ford SUV driven by a 40-year-old woman, according to a county-issued prepared statement.
The two-car crash took place around 8:20 p.m. Monday on the Kapa‘a Bypass Road, causing a brief closure of the roadway.
Both the 40-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter, the passenger in the SUV, sustained minor injuries and were transported to Wilcox Hospital in an ambulance. They were treated and released.
The 15-year-old driver and the two female juvenile passengers in the sedan were driven to Wilcox Hospital in the responding officer’s car and released to their parents.
The accident is being investigated by Kaua‘i police. Speed is believed to be a factor in this incident.
