County officials announced that the body of a man was found by witnesses at the west end of Larsen’s Beach yesterday.
Mary Daubert, county spokeswoman, said the body had not been positively identified.
As of press time, next of kin had not been notified.
The witnesses called 911 around 11:30 a.m. yesterday, and Hanalei station firefighters and Kaua‘i police responded to the scene, Daubert said.
Officials would not comment on whether the body was that of a swimmer who went missing near Larsen’s Beach Sunday evening.
Roy Overstreet, 42, of Bellingham, Wash., was swept out to sea around 5:45 p.m., along with his wife and a Good Samaritan who tried to help the couple.
Cara Jaye, 42, and 56-year-old Michael Ancharski, of Kapahi, were rescued. A Coast Guard and county search for Overstreet ensued, continuing into Monday night, when both were suspended pending new information.
Petty Officer Luke Clayton said the Coast Guard was not involved in the recovery of the body yesterday.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, Daubert said.
