KAPA‘A — Trent Allianic came up with two huge defensive plays in the third inning when he threw out Kahai Nakano and Randall Jacinto, back-to-back at second base
The Kaua‘i High School pitcher earned the win yesterday, pitching seven innings, striking out four batters, allowing one run, one earned, three hits and walked two. Allianic (3-0) clocked his fastest pitch at 85 miles per hour, in Kaua‘i’s 2-1 over Kapa‘a High School.
Kaua‘i (3-1 Round 2, 7-1 overall) got its first run at the top of the first inning when designated hitter Jordan Leanio singled to drive in Andrew Renaud.
At the bottom of the first, Kapa‘a’s relief pitcher Travis Shigeta was walked, as well as starting pitcher Cody Goias. Everett Awong was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Aaron Villatora then singled, driving in Shigeta, for the Warrior’s only run of the game.
Kaua‘i’s Jonathan Gebauer hit a solo home run out to left field at the top of the second. Gebauer finished with a single and a stolen base.
Kapa‘a had its chance to tie the game at the bottom of the seventh when Alan Kahaunaele got a base hit.
Next up was designated hitter Tyler Hadley whose pop fly was caught by Markus Oketani. Kahaunaele still advanced to second.
With the tying run in scoring position, C. J. Jacinto hit a ground ball as was tagged out by Allianic.
Lead-off batter Travis Nakamura was Kapa‘a’s chance to drive Kahaunaele home.
Allianic would strike out Nakamura to end the game and the season.
Kapa‘a’s Cody Goias took the loss. Goias (3-3) gave up two runs in 21/3 innings. Shigeta would hold down the Raiders when he came in relief at the top of the third.
Shigeta closed in 42/3 innings, giving up no runs and one hit.
Kaua‘i next heads to O‘ahu for the state tournament next month.
The Raiders won this year’s Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation title and earned its state berth last Saturday when they won game one of a double header against Waimea High School at the Vidinha Stadium, 10-0.
