Despite three top finishes, Marti Snyder had to settle for Reserve All Around Cowgirl honors at the Kaua‘i All Girl Rodeo Association event Sunday.
Kristyn Vasconcelles, earning top honors in the Steer Undecorating event with a 6.01 go, was named the All Around Cowgirl for the event that was dedicated to competitors who are, and who have immediate family, involved in National Guard deployments.
Snyder topped the first division 3D Barrels event on a 16.927 go, chased closely by Britni Braun and Wendy Tannery who posted gos of 17.023 and 17.138, respectively.
She went on to team with Joyce Miranda to capture the Dally Team Roping event with a 53.59 go. Rhonda Kaui and Kristene Sugai teamed up for second place at 69.44 followed by the team of Penny Miranda and Cheree Rapozo-Vasconcelles settling at third with an 88.53.
Snyder’s final top honor came in the Breakaway Roping event where she controlled the top slot on a 9.92 go followed by Kaui at 11.29. Shantell Wong and Braun filled in third and fourth places at 12.12 and 12.60, respectively, followed by Vasconcelles finishing fifth at 15.15.
Summer Malina, one of the cowgirls who was celebrating her final rodeo before being deployed, finished in third in the Steer Undecorating event with a 7.58 go. The event was topped by Vasconcelles and Corinna Schumacher who posted a 7.46 go. Following Malina, Penny Miranda and Kaui filled in fourth and fifth place on gos of 7.98 and 8.20, respectively.
In the 3D Barrels event, Tami Yamamoto and Vasconcelles nailed down the fourth and fifth berths of the first division on runs of 17.380 and 17.736, respectively.
Julie Akita topped the second division on an 18.451 go followed by Tara Fernandez and Carol Ayala filling in second and third with gos of 18.465 and 18.503, respectively.
Apryl Soares (18.570) and Charlene Medeiros (18.676) rounded out that division’s leader board.
Nancy McMahon (20.003) topped the third division riders followed by Kaui (20.046), McMahon’s second steed (20.314), Michelle Ientile (20.484) and Hoolai Ludington-Braun (20.610).
Tannery (21.546) topped the first division of the 3D Pole Bending event followed by Braun (22.069), Taylor Ludington (22.823) and Tannery’s second steed (23.001).
Second division honors went to McKenzie Javelosa (23.607), Vasconcelles (23.698), and Shan Mundon posting dual times of 24.929 and 25.178.
Akita topped the third division on a 25.673 go followed by Wong (25.824), Soares (26.070) and Laureen Naumu-Balocan (26.084).
Rosanne Shimogawa, another of the rodeo honorees, teamed with Hoolai Braun for third place in the Dally Team Roping on a 14.70/1 followed by Vasconcelles and Schu-
macher netting a 15.41/1.
Javelosa (21.127) topped the Goat Tying event followed by Kim Medeiros (23.629), Snyder (27.023), Vasconcelles (27.982) and Tannery (28.821).
The next KAGRA rodeo is scheduled for May 13 at the CJM Country Stable in Po‘ipu. Grand entry starts at 10 a.m. and there is no admission charge.
