When Michael Acoba and the Waimea High School baseball team travelled to Kapa‘a, Holly wasn’t there.
Instead an “aunty” showed up in Holly’s place to root for Michael.
“Holly is right now having surgery at Straub,” the aunty said. “So I’m here. Michael might not get to play, but in case he does, I’m here to cheer for him for Holly.”
Holly Camara, a single mother of two boys and a teacher at Kekaha Elementary School, recently went through an extensive surgery after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, states Brenda Denny in an e-mail.
The “Friends for Holly” benefit committee has been formed to raise funds to help offset Camara’s medical expenses.
The committee’s first fund-raising effort will be to host a spaghetti dinner with entertainment on April 14 at the Kekaha Elementary School cafeteria.
Diners may either dine in with entertainment, or pick up meals between 5 to 7 p.m.
A $6 donation for each meal goes to help Camara. Tickets are available at Da Booze Shop in Waimea, Jojo’s Anuenue Shaved Ice adjacent to Bucky’s Liquor, the Salt Pond Country Store in Hanapepe, and the Waipouli Variety Store in Kapa‘a.
Additionally, the committee asks that monetary contributions should have checks made out to the “Friends for Holly Relief Fund.”
“Through her faith, she continues to be strong,” states a fund-raising brochure. “However, she still remains hospitalized at Straub Hospital on O‘ahu.”
