KIF baseball, golf seasons start today
Today marks the start of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation starts its baseball and golf seasons.
Baseball’s season opener between last year’s KIF champion Waimea High School and Kaua‘i High School, at Waimea, will start at 12:30 p.m., due to SAT testing in the morning.
The golf opener between against Waimea and Kaua‘i is scheduled start at 11:30 a.m.
Three-time KIF champion and two-time Kaua‘i Junior Golf Association’s Girls Player of the Year Miki Ueoka will lead Kaua‘i on the course at Po‘ipu Bay.
In other KIF news, yesterday’s track meet was canceled because of the weather. There was no word, by press time, on whether or not that qualifying meet will be made up.
Girls basketball is scheduled to start late this month. The season opener will be on March 27 as the Waimea faces Kapa‘a High School at the Waimea gym.
On O‘ahu, Kamehameha Schools — Kapalama junior TJ Kua, of Lihu‘e, played last week’s Interscholastic League of Honolulu golf opener. Kua shot a 7 under par 65 with nines of 34-31 at the par 72 West Loch Golf Course. Kua had an eagle, 6 birdies and a bogey in his round.
Umpires host
meeting, clinic
Kauai Umpires Association will be holding a meeting and clinic for all current umpires and anyone interested in being certified as a baseball/softball umpire.
This will be held on this coming Thursday at the Koloa Ballpark Pavilion starting at 6 p.m..
