KIUC experienced extended outages Thursday due to generation shortages.
From 9:36 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. KIUC members in Koloa, Wailua, Kapa‘a, and Anahola experienced outages due to a steam turbine generator trip. Back-up generation was started, and all power was restored.
At 10:58 a.m., a gas turbine generator tripped, causing loss of power to KIUC members in Koloa, Wailua, Kapa‘a, Anahola, Lihu‘e, ‘Ele‘ele, and Princeville.
Additional back-up generation was started, and power was restored to KIUC members in Koloa, parts of Kapa‘a, Lihu‘e, ‘Ele‘ele, and Princeville by 11:28 a.m.
Power was restored to Wailua, the remaining parts of Kapa‘a, and Anahola by 1:15 p.m.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience,” a KIUC spokesperson said in a release.
