In the PTA’s Reflections Program, which is designed to provide students an opportunity to pursue artistic expression, students enter artwork both for fun and recognition.
Kalaheo School students from all grade levels submitted entries in three categories: Literature; Visual Arts; and Photography.
Third-grader Mitchell Evans took top honors in Literature for his story, “Come Inside My Head.”
First-grader Emily Sullivan win first place in both Visual Arts and Photography for her painting, “Fairy Land,” and her photograph, “Pool of Snails.”
When asked what she would do with her prize money, Sullivan said, “My mom said I have to save for college.”
Lorinda Sasan and Jake Herbig, both in fourth grade, rounded out the winners in the Literature category, while Kupono Aki, second grade, and Kaiwi Aki, third grade, each won an award for a Visual art entry.
“The judges had a much bigger job than anticipated because we had so many great entries,” reflections coordinator Shari Pilaria said.
The students’ artwork will also be entered into a regional PTA competition.
