That earns the Red Raiders an opening day bye as the HHSAA state championships kick off Wednesday at the Central O‘ahu Regional Park.
The Raiders open action Thursday against the winner of the Pahoa/Kaiser high school encounter that will play at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Top seed in Division II went to the Sacred Hearts Lancers. Kahuku and Kamehameha School-Hawai‘i have the third and fourth seeds, respectively.
The Mililani Trojans earned top seed in Division I followed by St. Francis, Baldwin and Waiakea.
Waimea High School earned the last state championship in 1990 under coach Albert Soto.
Hawai‘i basketball players to lead free clinic
Girls interested in high school varsity and junior varsity basketball are invited to a free clinic Feb. 10 at the Kapa‘a High School gym.
Coordinated by Kapa‘a athletic director Greg Gonsalves and Kaua‘i High School coach Kevin Medeiros, the clinic will be led by former University of Hawai‘i wahine basketball players Nani Cockett, Jennifer Kaeo, Michelle Gabriel and Ki‘i Spencer-Vasconcellos.
Medeiros said the clinic is open to girls from Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i and Waimea high schools.
The clinic runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a break for lunch, then resumes from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Lihu‘e Pop Warner Association is currently accepting applications for head coach positions for its 2007 Tackle and Spirit season.
Application forms can be picked up at M. Tanaka Store on Kalena Street and must be completed and turned in by Feb. 15 at 5 p.m.
