Palenapa Kaohelaulii Sr.
Palenapa Moses Hanaike Kaohelaulii Sr. of Makaweli died Dec. 26, 2006, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 86. Born Dec. 28, 1919, in Pu‘uwai, Ni‘ihau, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for Gay & Robinson Plantation.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Taniguchi Kaohelaulii; four sons, Rusty Kaohelaulii of Makaweli, Dexter (Angela) Kaohelaulii of Hanapepe, Casey (Marit McHugh) Kaohelaulii of Wailua and Palenapa (Rileene Waalani) Kaohelaulii Jr.; hanai son Andrew Opululani (Elea) Kahokuloa; daughters Valerie (Louis) Matias of Makaweli and Sherry (Jason) Matias of Lawa‘i; hanai daughter Sweetzie Wright-Momon; sisters Wenuke Lei (Gilbert) Pahulehua of Ni‘ihau and Janet Winona (Earl) Teters of O‘ahu; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m.to 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where services wilal be celebrated at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Joseph Rodrigues
Joseph “Sam” Rodrigues of Kapa‘a died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 26, 2006, at the age of 92.
Born in Kapa‘a on May 30, 1914, he retired as a mechanic with Lihue Sugar Plantation.
Survived by his daughter Stephanie (Wayne) Rapozo of Lihu‘e; son Malcome (Sherry) Rodrigues of Kapa‘a; brother John Rodrigues of Lihu‘e; sisters Theresa (George) Fernandes of Kapa‘a and Mary Rapozo of Kilauea; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, he was preceded in death by his wife Lydia Amaral Rodrigues and brother James Rodrigues.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at St. Catherine Church with visitation from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Catherine Church Cemetery.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Felipa Esteban
Felipa Villanida Esteban died Dec. 25, 2006, at home at the age of 83.
Born Feb.8, 1923, she was employed at the Lawai Cannery as a packer, and at the Islander Inn as a housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Primitiva Villanida; brothers Dominador and Maximo Villanida; sisters Leonora Banasihan and Maria Camelo-Anahori; son Lawrence Esteban; husband Pedro Esteban; and granddaughter Vanessa Nobriga. She is survived by brother Johnson Villanida of Kalaheo; sisters Irenia Figaroa of Lihu‘e, Philomena Peralta of Tacoma, Wash., and Teri Reyes of ‘Ele‘ele; children Bobby (Diana) Esteban of Corpus Christi, Texas, Beatrice Gonsalves of Puhi, Solidad Amos of Maysville, N.C., Ben (June) Esteban of Lihu‘e, Arcenia (Herman) Wilson of Puhi, Caesar (Gloria) Esteban of Hanama‘ulu and Suwela Esteban of Kapa‘a; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Services will be on Saturday, Dec. 30, at Immaculate Conception Church from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/ Kauai Mortuary.
Kazuto Yoshimitsu
Kazuto Yoshimitsu of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 24, 2006, at the age of 82. Born in Pakala on June 4, 1924, he was a retired stevedore with McCabe and a member of the 442nd Infantry Battalion.
He is survived by his wife Tsuyae Elaine Yoshimitsu; son Aaron (Debbie) Yoshimitsu of Hanapepe Heights; daughter Coleen Badoyen of Hanapepe Heights; one grandson; three brothers, Walter Hiroo (Frances) Yoshimitsu of O‘ahu, Masato (Akemi) Yoshimitsu of California and George (Vivian) Yoshimitsu of O‘ahu; sister Tokie Tanimoto of Kaua‘i; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Yoshimitsu and Irene Yoshimitsu, both of O‘ahu; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service officiated by Pastor Harold Kilborn will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery Pavilion. Casual attire is suggested.
