Marilyn Adams
Marilyn Adams of Kapa‘a died at home on Nov. 28, 2006, at the age of 55.
Born in Lihu‘e, on Jan. 27, 1951, she was employed by Transportation Security Administration at Detroit Airport as a security officer.
She is survived by her husband Paul Adams; two sons, Christopher and Matthew; brothers Rudy (Cathy) Agoot and Stanley (Jeannie) Agoot; one sister, Carol (Jose) Maneja; one uncle, Florencio (Madeline) Espinosa; mother-in-law Beverly Malymick; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Metui Hakaumoto
Infant Metui Hakaumotu died Dec. 19, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 19, 2006, he is survived by his parents, Siosaia and Mana Hakaumotu; sister Melevaleti Hakaumotu; maternal grandparents Kuluveti and Lavinia Taulanga; paternal grandparents Metai and Fatima Hakaumotu; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from noon to 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the family’s home at 1747 Makoi St. in Lihu‘e, where services will be at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Lihue Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Charles Futenma
Charles “Charlie” Futenma of Wailua Houselots died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 24, 2006, at the age of 72. Born in Waimea on May 4, 1934, he retired with the Department of Health as a registered sanitarian.
He is survived by his wife June Futenma; son Carl Futenma of Washington; daughter Claire Futenma of Los Angeles; sisters Ruth Futenma of Los Angeles and Tsuruko Unten of Okinawa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery pavilion.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Manuel Costa
Manuel Costa of Koloa died Dec. 21, 2006, at Hale Kupuna, at the age of 83.
Born July 13, 1923, on Kaua‘i, he was a retired bulldozer operator for Grove Farm Rock Quarry.
He is survived by his sister Mercy C. Costa and caregiver Leonard (Judith) Freitas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa, where Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.
Burial to follow at St. Raphael’s Church Cemetery.

Harriet H. Kalai
Harriet H. Kalai of Anahola died Dec. 18, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 81.
Born Sept. 26, 1925, on Hawai‘i, she was a linen valet for Ala Moana Hotel.
She is survived by four children, Ilene (Dennis) Marrotte Sr. of Anahola, Chang (Al) Martin of Hilo, Jacques (Darla) Patterson of California and Anelalani Patterson of Wailua; two sisters, Almar Napuelua of Honolulu and Florence Koanui of Honolulu; four brothers, Henry Luhela of Honolulu, Wana Mailolo of Honolulu, Calvin Kaina of Indiana and Kalani Kaina of Florida; 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Mauka Chapel at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Honolulu, where services will be at 7 p.m. Cremation to follow.

John Vilela
John Vilela of Kapa‘a died Dec. 22, 2006, at his home, at the age of 88.
Born Oct. 2, 1918, on Kaua‘i, he was a retired plant manager for Hawaiian Fruit Packers.
He is survived by his wife Carrie Vilela of Kapa‘a; two sons, Dennis (Sherry) Vilela of Florida and Randolph (Susan) Vilela of Kansas; daughter Doreen (Dave) Geiger of Washington; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a, where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Al. Burial to follow in St. Catherine’s Church Cemetery.

Kunio Masuda of ‘Ele‘ele died at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home on Dec. 23, 2006, at the age of 81.
Born in Pakala on Jan. 20, 1925, he was the retired proprietor of Kun’s Service.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Masuda of ‘Ele‘ele; son Daryl (Avis) Masuda of Hilo; daughter Sharilyn Masuda of Hilo; two grandchildren; brother Robert Masuda of O‘ahu; three sisters, Eleanor Kakutani of Lawa‘i, Mitsuko (Sam) Yamase of O‘ahu and Sueko (Atsumu) Harada of O‘ahu; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, at the Kauai Soto Zen Temple; service at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.

Masuo Kono
Masuo Kono of Kapa‘a died Dec. 12, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 83.
Born Oct. 15, 1923, in Hawai‘i, he was a mechanic for the U.S. Army and also a World War II veterans and a sergeant in the 442nd Infantry.
He is survived by his wife, Lourdes Ballesteros Kono of of Kapa‘a; hanai son Ryan Panday of ‘Oma‘o; sister Tsuyuko Sura; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6,at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe, where Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Al.

Patricia “Pennsy” Vaughn of Koloa died Dec. 23, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, at the age of 65.
Born Nov. 18, 1941, in Baltimore, Md., she was a bookkeeper for Gloria Vacation Rentals.
Preceded in death by her father Charles Rouiller and sister Bridget Rouiller, she is survived by her husband John Vaughn of Koloa; two children, Robin Vaughn of Koloa and Skip Vaughn of California; three grandchildren, Orlando Jr. of California, Marck of Koloa and Jeshua of California; mother Mary Rouiller; numerous aunts and cousins of Baltimore; and friends.
Donations may be made to Kauai Humane Society.
