Thousands of Christmas lights continue to illuminate the Historic County Building Park in Lihu‘e during the Festival of Lights. Inside the building volunteers have created delightful “Kaua‘i-style” Christmas touches.
Keiki can visit Santa and Mrs. Claus in their “Fern Grotto” surrounded by plumeria, hibiscus, anthuriums and taro. Visitors will delight to the miniature Hawaiian ‘hales’ in the ‘Na Pali’ Train Village surrounded by all the treasures that make Kaua‘i unique — from glittery rainbows to sparkling roosters and dolphins. And don’t miss seeing “Surfin’ Santa” in the glowing “barrel”of a wave.
All of Auntie Josie’s original folk art creations from her famous “Kapaa Christmas House” will be there. All are invited to step inside the Historic County Building and let the magic begin. It is truly a reflection of Kaua‘i’s aloha spirit. Families can visit Santa and Mrs. Claus on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., including Christmas Eve. The remaining dates for a visit are: Dec. 17, 22 ,23 and 24. There is no cost.
The Festival of Lights is sponsored by the county of Kauai, the Office of Economic Development, the Hawaii Tourism Authority and the Friends of the Festival of Lights. For further information contact: Elizabeth Freeman 639-8564 or by e-mail at friends @thefestivaloflights.info
