Yasmine Ware, 9, had a lot going for her entering the two-day Non Classified Mokihana Aquatics time trials.
Ware had recently returned from the Al Minn Aulea Invitational swim meet on O‘ahu with what Mokihana Aquatics coach Orlando “O” Anaya described as a “perfect meet.”
“She got improvements in all seven of her events there, and got a state qualifying time as well,” Anaya said of the young swimmer who has been swimming for Mokihana Aquatics for three years.
Following the two days at the Kaua‘i High School pool, the young swimmer continued to show her growth in swimming as she finished the time trials by improving on three of her O‘ahu times.
Ware shaved about a half second off her 50 Fly times, finishing the trials at 39.28, an improvement over her Aulea meet time of 39.73. That O‘ahu performance was an improvement of 1.56 over her previously recorded time.
“I like the Fly and Free,” Ware said as she and Amber Hopkins eyed the new patches that would be presented in their areas of accomplishments following the meet.
In the Female 9-10, 50 Breast stroke event, Ware took off almost a full second over her Aulea time, stopping the clock in Lihu‘e at 45.57 to earn another state qualifying time.
On O‘ahu, Ware’s time in the event was 46.67, earning her an HIAA time and bettering her previous best time by 2.04 seconds.
Ware trimmed her time in the Female 9-10, 50 Free event with a 35.39, bettering her Aulea time of 35.67.
In the eight events Ware swam over the weekend, she finished first in all eight events.
Mokihana Aquatics will hold another time trials event on Nov. 11-12.
