Welcome to Kaua‘i, David Allio and wife Jacqueline!
David, who is a contract shooter for a lot of large American agencies, was getting some surf shots at Kalapaki and ended up watching (and shooting) the first finishers for the Kaua‘i Channel Race while Jacqueline escaped the wind by reading a book in the car.
John Bryant of Carlsbad, Calif., is also back (note the Hawaiian monk seal pup in Saturday’s TGI). John’s trips simply coincide with the heiwa where he captured the Camper in action last year … hmmm, maybe we can have a meeting with all these serious shooters to “talk shop.”
Hats off to Dick Olsen and the Nawiliwili Yacht Club (Sharon Gibson was waiting for Malihini at the clubhouse, Dick said) on a great Kaua‘i Channel Race … not only did the event pique the interest of David Allio, it was nice to see some of the sailors on land for a change.
David has already labeled the Camper as “the water boy,” so, out on the South Shore, it was nice to run into Andy Melamed who was doing mic duties at the Ocean Festival … Jaime Arreola was enjoying the surf competition after the morning swim and Kyle Mira’s parents as well as Kawika Kaui’s dad were on hand to cheer them on in the bodyboarding finals … Duane Shimogawa Jr. said Jeremy Ferguson works at Kalaheo Coffee while he’s not shredding waves.
But time was running tight so even if Warren Perry’s truck was at the Prince Kuhio park, that visit will have to wait until the next trip.
