KALAHEO — Gee’s Angels picked up their fourth straight win with a 32-11 showing over Kaulupono A at the ZZ Youth Basketball 14-and -under girls league Monday night.
“We lost our first two games, but won the next four straight,” said excited coach Cecil Gee. “The girls are peaking.”
Angel Arrisa Thronas spearheaded the victory with eight points, followed by Leina‘ala McCabe adding six notches. Jessilyn Aki and Lauren Claypoole rounded out the victory with four-point contributions.
“Attending the Speed & Quickness basketball clinic over the weekend definitely helped,” Gee said. “Can you tell the improvement out there?”
Vakeesha Lagazo led the Kaulupono A effort with six points, including an opening trey. Searra Kaohi supplemented her court hustle with three points, and Sanoe Kaohelaulii finished with a pair in addition to solid rebounding.
In the second game of the night, Kaulupono A lost their second game of the season 32-31 to Kaulupono B, led by Bree-Ann Cox-Abuan’s nine-point showing.
Joanna Andres contributed seven points, Jayme Jacinto added six points with Chaelyn Briones and Brandi Briones each adding five marks in the win.
Lagazo topped the Kaulupono A effort with a game-high 19 points. Taylor Delos Reyes and Kaohelaulii each tucked in four. Kaelin Kamakele-Aquino and Kaohi each finished with a pair.
In opening action of the Boys 16-and-under games, Tino Ramos pounded out14 points and Travis Stine added 10 marks as the Breakaway held the Lakers in check, 43-33. Clifton Asuncion added eight points for the Breakaway.
Darren Lapitan led all Lakers with nine points, followed by Taylor Bell with six and Ian Lactaotao and Seth Quisel with five each.
In the nightcap, Southside coach Steven Matsumoto’s worries about missing several of his players were put to rest with a 41-36 win over the Kapa‘a Warriors.
Braxton Garma finished with 15 points to lead the Southside charge. John Beralas led the Warriors’ effort with a game-high 17 points, followed by Matt Lindsey with seven and Kila Youn adding five points.
