Teens looking for an opportunity to meet other youth from across the state and gain valuable skills in leadership, public speaking and activism are invited to apply to the REAL Experience III at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa from July 5 to July 7.
Those accepted to participate won’t pay a penny. Air transportation, lodging and meals are all covered by REAL, though space is limited. Interested teenagers can learn more and apply at www.thereal-message.net, or by contacting REAL at 441-8195.
The program will also provide updates on what tobacco companies are up to around the globe, a REAL release states.
“What a great forum for our kids from Kaua‘i to participate in,” Janice Bond said in an e-mail.
Bond advised S.H.O.U.T. (Students of Hawaii Opposing Use of Tobacco) from 1999 to 2001 and served on the Tobacco Settlement Trust Fund Advisory Board for six years before leaving in January.
