Port Allen fishing derby coming up next month

The annual Port Allen Fishing Derby heads out to sea June 24.

The event will be held at the Port Allen Small Boat Harbor from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A lu‘au dinner and awards ceremony will follow, with prizes for the winning fishermen. Additional prizes donated by sponsors will be up for grabs as well in a raffle.

Tickets are available for family members and friends of the participants, and derby shirts will be for sale.

Response to the tournament has been strong in recent years.

Last year 44 boats entered the Derby and even more are expected to participate this year. The first 20 boats to register for the derby will be entered into a drawing for a new color TV.

Entry forms can be picked up at Rainbow Paint, Lihu‘e Fishing Supply, Nawiliwili Harbor and the Port Allen Fishing Club.
