Photo contest offers big prizes

The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau is inviting Hawai‘i residents to submit photographs of island life for display in its online “My Hawaii Photo Gallery,” a press release states.

Entrants will have a chance to earn free airfare for a Mainland or interisland trip.

HVCB is seeking photos reflecting the islands’ beauty in the following subject areas:

• Fine Art Photos

• Life at the Beach

• Cuisine

• Culture

• Family Fun

• Golf

• Outdoor Activities

• Romance

• Shopping

• Spa Activities.

HVCB will take the selected photos and create an online ‘ohana photo album, states Michael Ni in the press release. Ni is an assistant account executive in the Travel & Tourism department of McNeil Wilson Communications.

Potential visitors to the islands will be able to scan through the photos when planning their next trip to Hawai‘i, Ni says.

“This is a great opportunity for local folks to share their favorite photos and let the world outside Hawai‘i see the essence of what makes our islands such an amazingly special place,” says Jay Talwar, HVCB’s vice president of marketing.

The deadline for submission is June 30, 2006, after which all photos will be judged and the top three winners, along with other selected images, will be displayed online at HVCB’s travel Web site, www.gohawaii.com.

All entries should be submitted online to www.gohawaii.com/photocontest.

Entrants submitting the top three photos will receive the following prizes, courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines:

• First Place: Two round-trip tickets to any Mainland U.S. city served by Hawaiian—Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, San Jose, Seattle, Portland and Phoenix.
