Lingle releases last of school facilities funds

Gov. Linda Lingle released $35,620,000 for school improvements for 164 schools across the state yesterday.

The funds are the remainder of the $75 million appropriated in fiscal year 2006 for school facilities repair and maintenance. Lingle released the first $39.32 million for repairs and maintenance earlier this year.

Projects include roofing, air conditioning, painting, plumbing, electrical upgrades, and other repairs and improvements. The following shows the break-down of funding among five islands:

• O‘ahu Schools: $25,952,000

• Big Island Schools: $4,191,000

• Kaua‘i Schools: $2,608,000

• Maui Schools: $2,603,000

• Moloka‘i Schools: $266,000

These projects are part of priority number 44 of 89 as reflected in Department of Education’s revised Capital Improvement Project implementation plan dated Feb. 17.
