Gov. Linda Lingle released $35,620,000 for school improvements for 164 schools across the state yesterday.
The funds are the remainder of the $75 million appropriated in fiscal year 2006 for school facilities repair and maintenance. Lingle released the first $39.32 million for repairs and maintenance earlier this year.
Projects include roofing, air conditioning, painting, plumbing, electrical upgrades, and other repairs and improvements. The following shows the break-down of funding among five islands:
• O‘ahu Schools: $25,952,000
• Big Island Schools: $4,191,000
• Kaua‘i Schools: $2,608,000
• Maui Schools: $2,603,000
• Moloka‘i Schools: $266,000
These projects are part of priority number 44 of 89 as reflected in Department of Education’s revised Capital Improvement Project implementation plan dated Feb. 17.
