Waimea pitcher Kelly Batis polished off his fourth win of the season, yesterday in a 7-6 win over the Red Raiders at Waimea High School.
The win gave the 2006 KIF champions their 10th straight win of the season, finishing at 11-1 (6-0 second round).
Kaua‘i slashed out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings, thanks to Andrew Renaud, Jett Jasper, Johnathan Gebauer, and Aaron Adachi. The Menehune stormed back in the fourth inning, led by Isaac Castillo and Brenden Hew, who put Waimea up for good at 7-6. Trent Allianic took the loss for the Red Raiders, who fell to 7-4 overall. The Red Raiders’ streak of three straight KIF titles was also snapped this year.
At the plate, Waimea was led by Broc Santiago, Quinton Natividad, Castillo, Batis (4-4), Braden Hiraoka, Troy Yamase, and Hew.
Marcus Oketani, Adachi, Schyler Arakaki-Ibia, Gebauer, Jasper, and Jordan Buster paced Kaua‘i’s bats. Waimea now heads to the HHSAA State Baseball Tournament on Maui at the Iron Maehara Stadium, from May 17-20.
