The Hawaii Army National Guard 93rd Civil Support Team’s annual week-long anti-terrorism training exercises are going on in the parking lot of Vidinha Stadium this week, county officials said in a press release.
While the exercises are taking place, a portion of the Vidinha Stadium parking lot and access road, the one off Kapule Highway closest to the stadium, is closed. Officials ask that the public stay away from the area so that participants can conduct the exercises without interruptions.
The Kaua‘i Civil Defense Agency is co-sponsoring this training with Hawaii Army National Guard troops to ensure that first responders, such as representatives of Civil Defense, fire, police, public works and water departments, along with state, federal and private industry, will be prepared in the event of a terrorist attack on Kaua‘i.
The training exercises are helping to test local, state and federal anti-terrorist response plans through various scenarios, and ensuring coordination between all responding agencies should there be an attack.
