Congratulations to Helen Santiago! Not only was she busy at the Senior Extravaganza, she got married on Sunday in Kekaha.
Hats off to Roy Nishida and his staff members for another successful round of speed and quickness clinics! Roy has been busy since he also had to take care of U.S. Attorney Ed Kubo for the identity-theft presentation at the Contractors Association of Kaua’i Home Show.
Miss-I-don’t-want-my-name-in-the-paper said the CAK staff started out with 73 chairs, and they were all occupied with people overflowing out of the tent for Ed’s presentation. Too bad Kaua’i High School was playing basketball at the same time. Tammy Fernandez (she was helping Pete Gallardo fill baskets) said her daughter took part in the soccer clinic, as did a lot of other Kaua’i players, who got to go four-a-side with University of Hawai’i players Koren Takayama, Krisha Kai, Shawn Higa (Jason Sahara knows her from school), and Jessica Domingo. Coach Karl Ubongen was on hand for the clinic, and Keali’i Aguiar brought his whole family out for the event Saturday.
Coach Brandon Fujita said he was everything rolled into one at the Fri day-night game, but everything went without a hitch. Congratulations to Tom Shigemoto and the Kaua’i AJA (Americans of Japanese Ancestry) organization on hosting a great 71st Hawaii State Tournament! Ross Kagawa had to come out to check out some of the former UH players, and the best seats in the house are where the old-timers are! OK, it’s time to check out Hank Ibia and the Red Raiders’ against Waimea (Kelly Robinson was an AJA player at one time, too).
