Owners of the Talk Story Bookstore, Gallery & Cafe, known simply as Ed and Cynthia, will be hosting their Second Annual Valentine’s Gala Extravaganza tonight at 6 p.m.
The pair said there will be gifts, drawings for prizes, a dinner buffet, and live entertainment from their resident musicians Kalena and David.
“This was actually Kalena’s idea,” Ed said. “He seems to be the creative force when it comes to our parties.”
The gala is free and open to the public, a change from last year’s event.
“Last year, the gallery was like a small club, and a DJ was spinning, and it was more of a private little thing,” he said.
“This year, there will be belly dancing and prize drawings. They’ll have these tickets, and we’ll pull drawings out of a hat, and they’ll win prizes, whether it be an item or store credit.”
The bookstore, equipped with a lounge-style gallery, is located on Hanapepe Road, and is one of the sites that stays open late for Hanapepe’s every-Friday-night art walks.
Tonight will be different from other Friday nights in that there will be a dinner buffet. There will be a donation plate for anyone who wants to contribute.
“We don’t normally do the dinner buffet. Our cakes and everything we do will be all out. They’ll be able to get pretty much as they want,” Ed said.
There will also be tarot readings provided by Ed.
The belly dancing with Layla Katrina and friends will begin at 6 p.m. Kalena and David will perform afterwards.
“The belly dancing may go on throughout the night and not just from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.,” Ed said. “They may go on even after Kalena and David perform.”
The gala will last till 11 p.m. For more information, call 335-6469.
