Leaders of the Kapaa Business Association announced in a press release that they have extended the deadline for entries for ideas for beautification of the roundabout at the intersection of ‘Olohena Road and the Kapa’a bypass road.
“Most of us have figured out how to use the roundabout, but who wants to look at it? What an eyesore,” an association spokesperson said.
“Who said progress has to be ugly?” she asked.
KBA leaders are sponsoring a design contest to beautify the roundabout.
“We have an opportunity to create something that will represent the community, in an artistic way, to be enjoyed by residents and visitors for decades.”
The deadline is now Feb. 10.
The final installation must fit within the existing site, be two feet high or less, and may not obstruct driver sightlines.
Consideration will be given to those projects that include community involvement in design, installation and/or maintenance.
Applicants should submit conceptual drawings, a description of the project, and estimated cost to complete.
All entries are due by Feb. 10, and may be submitted on the web at www.kbakauai.org, or by e-mail to KBA Executive Director Pat Pannell at ppannell@kabkauai.org, or to Vice President Bob Bartolo at maikai@hawaiilihnk.net.
Finalists will present their ideas at KBA’s annual meeting, Feb. 21, at 5:30 p.m. at Pizzetta Restaurant in Kapa’a.
