On Monday Belma A. Baris became the new deputy finance director for the county of Kaua‘i. The Finance Department includes nine separate divisions, each under the helm of Michael Tresler, director of finance.
Baris has a background in business and finance and has held head positions in the Finance Department at Mahelona Medical Center-Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation, and Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital. She had a combined 15 years of service at those two institutions.
“She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Finance Department and will be extremely helpful as we continue to enhance our services for public access to the divisions within the department,” said Tresler.
Before coming to Hawai‘i, Belma was the regional chief accountant for the National Food Administration, a Philippine Government Agency. She is a graduate of the University of the East, Manila, Philippines, and a former member of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
A very active community leader, she currently serves on the board of directors for the Kaua‘i Filpino Chamber of Commerce and Finance Committee Chairman for Immaculate Conception Church.
Belma lives in Hana-ma‘ulu with husband Fel Baris, an electrical/electronic tech for the wastewater division of the county of Kaua‘i.
They have three children and one granddaughter.
