A three-way tie is in the cards for KIF JV basketball, with tonight’s game deciding the fates of the three schools.
With the varsity first-round title already spoken for by the Menehune, the JV squad has a chance to sew up its own version of a first-round crown.
However, the Red Raiders could play spoiler and even things up at the top with all three teams tied at 2-2 in the first round. Waimea, under head coach Kawika Smith, jumped out to a 2-0 record, with close wins over both Kaua’i and Kapa’a.
Then, the Warriors and Matt Lindsey found a way to upend the Menehune, which paved the way for the three-way bottleneck at the top.
The Red Raiders found the right chemistry in Tuesday’s matchup against the Warriors, for their first win of the season, thanks to a big game by Micah Alayvilla. Waimea and Kaua’i battle at the Raiderdome tonight at 5:30 p.m., with the KIF’s JV first-round title on the line.
