Yagi basketball clinic, Saturday

Former University of Hawai’i Hilo basketball coach Jimmy Yagi will host a basketball clinic starting 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Kaua’i High School Gym.
Co-sponsored by the County of Kaua’i and Hawaiian Airlines, Yagi’s clinic is open to boys and girls ages 17 years old and younger.
Players in the 14 and Under age group are invited to take part in the clinic that runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a free lunch to follow. Boys and girls in the 17 and Under division are invited to the session that runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A special coaches clinic will follow from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is part of the county’s Drug Free Program.
YMCA Kauai Hoe Wa’a OC-1 season opener
YMCA Kaua’i Hoe Wa’a is hosting its first paddling race of the season at 12 p.m. on Sunday, January 8. Short course OC-1 and paddle board — from Kukuiula Small Boat Harbor to Port Allen. Long course from Sheraton Kaua’i to Port Allen. Registration for all at 10 — 11 a.m. at Kukuiula Small Boat Harbor. Pre-race meetings for all participants at 11:30 — Kukuiula Harbor for short course paddlers, Sheraton for long course. All OC-1, OC-2, surfski and paddle boarders are encouraged to dust off your craft and come down for a great race complete with food and refreshments at the finish. Kaua’i senior tennis meeting
Kaua’i District Tennis Association announces a Senior (50+) Tennis League captains’ meeting at noon on Saturday, January 7 at Po’ipu Kai Tennis Courts. All interested players 50+ years are welcome. Senior women can contact Carolyn at 245-9661 and senior men can contact Lance at 245-8010.
Koloa t-ball to kick off season with parade
The annual Koloa youth t-ball parade kicks off Saturday at 9 a.m., starting at the First Hawaiian Bank in Koloa and ending at Koloa Ballpark.
A short ceremony will signal the beginning of the season. Come on down to see the youth players and enjoy the day at Koloa Ballpark for some food and hopefully some fun in the sun.
Shamrock heading to Kaua’i in March
Noted mixed martial arts fighter (MMA) Frank Shamrock will be coming down to attend the Garden Island Cage match #3 on March 26.
He will be doing autographs at the weigh ins, the day before the event, along with Jens Pulver and Robbie Lawler, and a couple other celebrity MMA fighters yet to be announced.
