Staff at The Garden Island newspaper and members of the Zonta Club of Kauai teamed up this year to ask the community to help make the holidays happier for less-fortunate residents through the Zonta/Garden Island Christmas Fund.
Most people look forward each year to the merriment and cheer of the holiday season, but there are far too many residents who barely make ends meet every day. Thanks to readers’ aloha nui, however, many less fortunate islanders will have a better Christmas. Below are notes of thanks from recipients and the Zonta Club.
From a recipient of your kokua:
Dear folks,
Thank you very much for your generosity. I was able to get some items I sorely needed like a small daypack (back-pack) and propane gas, hand towel, garbage bags, soap, etc.
Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas. Happy Yuletide. Season’s greeting. Pleasant holidays. And, enjoy a nice winter solstice (That should cover it all, plus Hanukah and Kwanzaa.)
Mahalo.
And from the Zonta Club:
I’m excited to tell you that to date, we’ve collected about $15,000 (I think this is already a couple thousand more than last year). And, it’s not over yet. I’ve gotten two calls today from interested donors (one who said he would be sending a $500 check). Many of the calls have come from visitors.
All of this generosity truly warms my heart!
