University of Hawai`i receiver Davone Bess was named today to the 2005 Rivals.com Freshman All-America Team.
Bess, a true freshman, has started all 11 games at the “Y” slot back position for the Warriors this season.
The 5-10, 187-pound product of Oakland’s Skyline High School leads UH in both receptions (85) and receiving yards (1,082). He also hauled in a team-high 14 touchdown catches.
Bess, along with teammate Ryan Grice-Mullen, are the first pair to pick up 1,000 receiving yards each in the same season in the history of the program.
He is the only player from the Western Athletic Conference selected to the first team by Rivals.com. Boise State’s Ryan Clady, an offensive tackle, was named to the second team.
The Warriors play their final game of the season this Saturday against San Diego State at Aloha Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m.
